Viborg is one of Denmark's oldest towns and one of the most atmospheric in Jutland. A twin-towered granite cathedral anchors a hilly medieval street grid of cobbled lanes and colourful houses, and two long lakes wrap the centre on either side. The mix of monumental Romanesque-revival stonework, intimate old-town streets, and open water makes it a town where the backdrop changes completely within a short walk.

I travel to Viborg for weddings, couples shoots and family sessions across the area. Viborg Domkirke, with its vast interior fresco cycle and medieval crypt, is the most striking ceremony venue in the region for couples wanting a church wedding. For civil ceremonies, Gråbrødre Kloster on Sct. Mogens Gade offers a historic setting in the heart of the old town, though with limited guest capacity. Peak 12, a central design hotel with a rooftop and adjoining Tinghallen banquet halls, covers larger receptions. Outdoors, the cobbled lanes around Hjultorvet and the walking route around Søndersø give two very different settings within easy reach of the centre.
