A tightly preserved medieval street grid of cobbles and tall half-timbered houses runs through the centre, anchored by the cathedral-like silhouette of Sankt Mortens Kirke and the Gudenå river valley on the town's edge. Houmeden, billed as Denmark's oldest pedestrian street, and the merchant houses around Rådhustorvet give the kind of architectural detail that works in any light and any season.
